THE FOSSIL FUEL TREATY VIRTUAL SUMMIT

8-15 September, 2025

The Fossil Fuel Non-Proliferation Treaty Initiative has already made significant strides: 17 governments are now actively participating in conversations around the initiative, and a growing bloc of civil society, communities, and champions around the world are building pressure for real change. We are no longer debating if we must phase out fossil fuels — the question is how, when, and through what process.

That’s where this virtual Summit — and your leadership — come in.

We are entering a critical next phase: laying the groundwork for a dedicated negotiating process in 2026. The world needs a clear, coordinated global plan to end fossil fuel expansion, fairly phase out production, and fast-track a just transition. Our initiative is that plan — and we are closer than ever to making it real.

The climate crisis is accelerating, and fossil fuels remain its core driver — but our network already knows this. What matters now is how we move from recognition to coordinated global action.

This virtual summit is not a moment to revisit what we already know. It’s a working space for shaping what comes next. Together, we will align around the legal, political, and movement-building strategy to deliver a Treaty. We’ll strengthen regional and constituency coalitions, deepen collaboration between civil society and governments, and define the roles each of us must play to turn momentum into a mandate.

This is your opportunity to help shape a historic global advance — and help deliver the first international process focused on ending the fossil fuel era.
